President Elect
The primary duties of the President-Elect is to prepare him/herself to
assume the office of president the following year. Attendance at District and
RI-sponsored leadership sessions, such as COLTS (Club Officer and Leaders Training
Seminar) and PETS (President-Elect Training Seminar) are essential.
It shall be the duty of the president-elect to serve as a member
of the board of directors of the club and to perform such other
duties as may be prescribed by the president or the board.
The president shall appoint the president-elect or vice-president
to oversee and coordinate the work of the classifications,
membership, membership development, and Rotary information
committees.
The President-Elect also chairs Wenatchee Sunrise Rotary's Membership Extension
committee, and is responsible for new member orientation (together with member sponsors),
induction and mentorship. This is a key element of keeping our club healthy, for
statistics indicate that, if a new member is not well integrated into the club,
he or she will very likely drop out within two years.
Preparation
Before accepting office, club presidents-elect
should be required by their respective clubs to pledge themselves to
attend the district assembly. The recommended "Committee Plan for a
Rotary Club" and the "Recommended Club Bylaws" shall provide for the
club president-elect or vice-president-elect to be responsible for
overseeing and coordinating the work of the classifications,
membership, membership development and Rotary information committees
of the club.Incoming club presidents-elect are urged to complete
their appointments of club committee chairmen no later than 31
March.
During the months as president elect, much emphasis
must be laid in the preparation to effectively serve the club.
During these preparation months, the following steps must be
observed:
- Assess the club's membership situation
- Discuss service objectives
- Identify ways to improve support for The Rotary Foundation
- Developt future leaders by promoting attendance at
important district and RI events
The tasks/actions to be carried out soon after election include:
- Appointment of committee chairs
- Attend PET (President-Elect-Training) Seminar
- Encourage all club leaders to attend the annual District
Assembly so as to acquire the skills and knowledge required for
success in the coming year.
- Hold one or more meetings with the new board of directors.
- Begin to set club goals for the coming year
- Supervise the preparation of the club budget
- Review the status of current club projects.
